KOTA KINABALU, (July 6) – Beaufort Member of Parliament Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun has urged authorities to take firm action against David Orok for insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad.
Azizah, who is also Wanita chief of Sabah Islamic Organisation (Usia) said insulting the prophet can trigger hatred and anger among the people in Sabah and Malaysia in general.
“In Sabah, there are over 30 ethnic groups professing different religions. A family may consist of members of various religions but they live in peace and harmony,” she said in a statement, here Sunday.
Azizah said the insulting statement by Orok can divide the people and if not dealt with seriously can destroy the harmony of communities in Sabah.
Orok, a State Reform Party (Star) member, courted controversy by insulting Islam and Prophet Muhammad on his Facebook page recently.
Meanwhile, Sepanggar Umno Youth chief Ramlan Awal gave Orok seven days to make an explanation and a public apology for hurting the feeling of Muslims.
He said Sepanggar Umno Youth also made a police report against Orok and hopes that authorities will take firm action.
Yesterday, the Coalition of Sabah Muslim NGOs Council (Concerns) lodged a police report against the politician. –BERNAMA
