KOTA KINABALU, (April 23) — Sabah Malaysian Handicraft Development Corporation has targetted RM700,000 in sales at the 11-day state level Malaysia Craft promotion campaign here, from Friday, said its director Abd Rahman Omar.
He said the target was based on last year’s overwhelming response, which saw sales worth RM670,000.
“The promotion is to boost the promotion of Malaysian craft products and programmes,” he told a media conference in Inanam here, Wednesday.
He said the promotion was a cooperation between the Kota Kinabalu City Hall, various agencies, including Tourism Malaysia, and the state government.
The craft promotion, including forest products, textiles and metal, was expected to be participated by 100 craft entrepreneurs nationwide, he said.
Abd Rahman said a special programme, Mega Craft Arts Education Day, involving 300 participants comprising students and non-government organisations, would also be held at Lintasan Deasoka on April 30.
He hoped the public would visit the promotion campaign, in conjunction with the 2014 Visit Malaysia Year, to make it a success.
Among the exhibitions and craft promotions which would be held this year were Malaysia Craft in conjunction with the Kaamatan month at Suria Sabah, Kota Kinabalu on May 16-June 1, Aidilfitri Craft on July 11-23 and Malaysia Craft on Oct 23 to Nov 2, both at 1Borneo Hypermall, he added.
