SEMPORNA, (Feb 9) — Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the people must collectively strive to strengthen unity and harmony in the country.
He said there should be concord among the people regardless of their race and religion to ensure that the country remained peaceful, without any conflict that could lead to the country’s destruction.
“We in Malaysia are made up of different races, ethnicity and religion. In this regard, we should refrain from bickering and belittling one another because this can disrupt the peace and harmony that we have achieved,” he said at a dinner function attended by more than 1,000 people from the local Chinese community here Saturday night.
He called on the people to maintain good rapport with one another and help the government realise its aspiration towards a developed nation by 2020.
“The people should appreciate that Malaysia is rapidly progressing and regardless of whether we are in the government, private sector or opposition, we must aim towards that goal,” he said. — BERNAMA
