ESSCom Secretariat director Newmond Tibin said the government security agency hoped to forge greater cooperation with RT members.
Indicating that ESSCom would be collaborating with the RT in various programmes including neighbourhood watch, he said such rapport would further strengthen security in the ESSZone.
“We realise that for peace and prosperity to prevail, the spirit of unity and solidarity must be entrenched in the Malaysian society at every strata,” he said while presenting a talk on ESSCom-RT Cooperation here Saturday.
He was representing ESSCom CEO Ruji Ubi at a workshop organised by the National Integration Research and Training Institute, which was attended by more than 50 RT members from Semporna and Tawau.
Newmond also urged RT members to act as the eyes and ears of the authorities to help rid ESSZone of illegal immigrants.
Earlier, ESSCom Intelligence deputy director ACP Hashim Justin cautioned RT members against harbouring or conspiring with illegal immigrants.
“We do not want locals to become informers for illegal immigrants or cross border criminals, which could undermine security,” he said, adding that stern action would be taken against anyone who did so. — BERNAMA
