LAHAD DATU, (Feb 18 ) — Residents in the vicinity of Tanduo village including in Felda Sahabat area are urged to report the presence of any illegal immigrants or suspicious characters in their area to the security forces.
Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom) commander DCP Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun said they could report to the nearest police station or contact ESSCom’s 24-hour operations room at 089-863181, or fax to 089-863182.
“We often hear rumour that claimed the second wave of Sulu attack would occur. Although it was not true, we do not want to be complacent but to always get ready to face any possibility.
“In this case, cooperation from all parties including residents in the coastal areas around Tanduo and the Felda auxiliary police personnel was very important to help the security forces to take appropriate measures,” he said at the ESSCom engagement with the Felda auxiliary police at Felda Sahabat 3, Wednesday.
Present were ESSCom Chief Executive Officer, Ruji Ubi and general manager of Felda Eastern Sabah Region, Sharuddin Amin.
Abdul Rashid wanted the Felda Sahabat auxiliary police to be the government’s eyes and ears in providing information particularly relating to the illegal immigrants or the presence of criminals posing as local people.
He also called on the auxiliary police personnel to continue to help inculcate integrity practices in executing duties entrusted to them.
“Do not be afraid or worried of reactions from certain parties when providing information to the security forces…We do not compromise with any party who conspired with illegal immigrants or cross-border crime,” he said.
Abdul Rashid said the Tanduo and Kampung Simunul incidents opened the eyes of all parties especially the local folks who loved peace and hoped that it would not occur again.
He said, although the incident had occurred almost two years ago, the tragedy which resulted in 10 members of the security forces killed and about 68 terrorists shot dead remained fresh in the memory of millions of people in the country.– BERNAMA
