DUNGUN, (Dec 15) — A Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) officer died when the multi-purpose vehicle he was driving was involved in an accident at Km341.3 of the East Coast Expressway, near Felda Kerteh 2, here, Sunday.
The victim, Lt Col Zahari Mustaffa, 51, from the Gong Kedak RMAF base, Besut, died at the scene after the Toyota Innova he was driving went out of control and crashed into the road divider before turning turtle in the 6.50pm incident.
The victim is believed to be travelling from Kuala Lumpur after visiting his sick wife and was on his way home to the base in Besut.
Six firefighters from the Paka Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene to extricate the victim who was trapped in his vehicle.
Dungun district police chief, Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaacub when contacted by Bernama, confirmed that a report had been received on the accident.
The victim’s body was taken to Dungun Hospital. — BERNAMA
