LABUAN, (Dec 12) — A policeman was found dead from a gunshot wound in the head in his house early Friday, and a pistol was found beside the body, police said.
Lance Corporal Mohd Sobri Abd Rahman, 29, was found dead at 12.20 am, said Labuan Police chief Supt Adzhar Othman, adding that the policeman had returned home at about 11.30 pm while on patrol duty.
“He died from the gunshot wound at the place where he performed prayers,” he told Bernama. The gun recovered was a semi-automatic Walther P99, he said.
Mohd Sobri, who was from Perak, leaves a wife and a two-year-old daughter, he said, adding that he had been on general duty at the Labuan police station for six years.
Adzhar said Mohd Sobri had been active in sports, was a parade trainer, and a futsal referee at the just-concluded BIMP-EAGA Friendship Games.
“Sobri was an extremely dedicated policeman. He will be deeply missed by his fellow officers,” a policeman said.
Mohd Sobri’s body is to be flown to his hometown of Gerik, Perak, for burial. – BERNAMA
