GEORGE TOWN,( Oct 9 ) — The Penang police have received a report on two men attempting to hack an automated teller machine (ATM) of a bank at Jalan Tengah, Bayan Baru here last Sept 25.
State police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi said the report was lodged by an officer of the bank concerned last Tuesday based on a recording of a closed circuit television (CCTV) dated Sept 25 from midnight to 1 am.
“The recording showed two fair-skinned men opening the top part of one of the ATM and attempting to do something with the CPU,” he told reporters the High Profile Policing programme at Lorong Kulit here today.
He said based on the CCTV recording, the attempt by the two men failed and they closed back the top part of the ATM before leaving the premise.
He said none of the bank staff or the security personnel on duty realised the incident until they watched the CCTV recording.
“There was no loss suffered by the bank,” he said, adding that the police had opened an investigation paper on the case.
He said police had obtained the image of the two men and were tracking them down.
Checks and patrols have also been stepped up at banks’ ATM premises statewide, he added.—BERNAMA
