KUALA TERENGGANU, (May 22 ) – Terengganu deputy police chief Datuk Hamzah Mohd Jamil said 530 motorcycle theft cases were reported from January to April this year.
“It works down to two to three cases daily in Terengganu or up five percent from the corresponding period last year,’ he told reporters here Thursday.
Hamzah said theft of cars, vans and lorries also showed a slight increase but burglary, robbery, snatch theft and housebreaking cases showed a decline.
“In many motorcycle theft cases, the vehicles did not have additional lock and thus made it easy for the thieves.”
He said the Terengganu crime rate declined by 9.9 percent in the first four months compared to the corresponding period last year.
The decline was due to programmes that involve the people such as ‘Satu Polis, Satu Jawatankuasa Kemajuan Keselamatan Kampung’ and ‘Rakan Anti Jenayah.’—BERNAMA
